Need to know: the components of thermoforming / extrusion tooling, how to conduct tooling design review, thermoforming tolerances (punches & dies, bushings, class I/III), use CAD software like Solidworks or AutoCAD, how to create prototypes using vendors and run trials, the general process of plastic sheet extrusion and thermoforming.  This position is work in Oxnard, CA.

Responsibilities for the Tool Engineer

  • Designs or manages the design and fabrication of industrial molds and use, tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and machine attachments required for production of Thermoforming and Extrusion process
  • Organize, research and lead brainstorm events around unique customer problems
  • Work with tooling engineering and operation engineering teams to define manufacturing strategy and capital plans required for product implementation.
  • Meet production goals and keep tooling downtime to a minimum
  • Define development and commercialization timelines
  • Direct activities relating to tooling operations in plant
  • Revise procedures, identify issues in efficiency and suggest ways of improvement
  • Enforce safety guidelines and company standards
  • Monitor the work of employees, provide feedback and perform coaching or counseling
  • Schedule regular maintenance
  • Mold & Tool repair
  • Manage Tooling Technicians in plant
  • Assess mold production performance
  •  Keep mold-change and mold problem times down
  • Maintain tooling equipment
  • Complete all documentation for department
  • Ensure Tooling PM’s are completed
  • Improve the quality of molds and mold repairs
  • Promote Safety, Quality, GMP & Food Safety
  • Must be very hands on and work directly on the floor with the Tooling Technicians
  • Responsible to plan the tooling and processes required for manufacturing certain products, with the design of molds
  • Supports production, business, and other processes in a team-based manufacturing environment.
  •  Performs activities in a variety of cross-functional areas including production planning and control, total quality management, systems, manufacturing, equipment and facilities engineering, material management, and process reengineering.

Requirements for the Tool Engineer

Minimum Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical  Engineering preferred

Mold & Tool Repair of Molds Experience

Manage Tooling Department and Technicians

Strong written, verbal, organizational skills

Must have 3-5 years related experience

Must have tooling and fixture design experience; Plastic tool design preferred

Experience within Thermoforming/Extrusion in the plastic field Driven to achieve great results throughout the design and development process
